Hi! Please download the PDF manual, print it, then read the Chapter with the title "Passwords". There is a section that does explain how to use the "custom password for each user" checkbox to make the password(s) that will change depending on the user. Or, alternatively, this is explained also here step by step: http://www.cdfrontend.com/autoplay_cd_dvd_presentation_menu/create_autor un_cd_brochure_catalog_software_000135.htm with images. Just try to replicate the example; protection is a serious thing, so try to introduce your variants only after you learned how it works. It works and it is quite simple once you get how it works. To test, you may create a CD and test the CD on another PC, this is the best thing to do so you won't risk it to interfere with the editor and to have misunderstanding. My suggestion is to left the first page of the CD without password, so the user can at least see what the CD is about. And you can right click on that first page and use the right click menu in order to "reset" the user so you can be able to try the CD (virtually) for different users (otherwise the pc will memorize the name of the user; with the right mouse button menu you can also reset the password = delete it if memorized). Once the page is accessed from a certain user on a certain PC, then the access is granted and the password memorized. With certain CDFE editions you can set up the CD in order to not memorize the password and to ask the password for each access (Hypertext >Current hypertext properties >Reader/Show options - "don't store passwords").

Please show us how to encrypt unique passwords unto a CD for different users to access the same file. For example: 1. I have a single file on a CD 2. I want 10 people to access the same file on the CD, but using different passwords. 3. I want to specify the password for each user.

You would be kind to read the manual. Quote: 1. I have a single file on a CD 2. I want 10 people to access the same file on the CD, but using different passwords. 3. I want to specify the password for each user. |
| 3 is NOT possible. The passwords are NOT stored on the CD (otherwise all the stuff would be easy to crack), you DO NOT decide the passwords. It works this way: 1. You have one or more CD Front End pages (then the page(s) may contain link to one or multiple files) 2. You want 10 people to access the same page(s) on the CD, but using different passwords. 3. The software, starting from a password seed (called author password) generates the password for each user This way: a) you can have unlimited passwords, not just 10, and you can add infinite passwords after the CD has been printed) b) you have real security, as the CD does not contain the passwords. The CD contains a checking algorithm. The algorithm uses the "password provided" (actually the match pass+username/email) as a reverse-key to decrypt the content. in other words you can not decide the pass for each user, as the "pass" is a decription key calculated with the user name. You must use the CDFrontEnd internal tools to calculate the password for each user (you can use the password dialog; the Mass button that can calculate passwords for N users listed within a comma separate CSV / Excel file - it takes a csv file in input, it output the same csv file with passwords added; or you can also use CDFrontEnd "command line" - "batch" for calculating a password for a given user).

I think maybe it is useful to repeat the steps here 1) you create a CDFrontEnd document (open CDFrontEnd, File >New, Insert >New page to insert new pages; then you can put link images videos links to files pdf doc ppt etc etc etc) 2) when the document/presentation is ok (it can be 1 page or 10000 pages), use Hypertext >Passwords to show the Password dialog 3) you click the "Add password" button, and you type a password that will be the so called "author password" or "password seed" 4) now the program will ask you "do you want to apply this password to all pages?". Say yes. The program will automatically select the password you just added, then it will check all pages on the rightside of the dialog. By the way, we suggest you to "unselect" form the rightside list the main page / cover of the CD - this way the main page of the CD will be password free. This way your end user will at least see what the CD is (otherwise the CD will ask a pass even before showing anything... the end user may be puzzled and may have forgot what the CD is and where it stored the password). So even the simplest CD should have at least 2 pages (one free, to be used as cover, one protected, to store the protected stuff). 5) now check the checkbox "custom password for each user". Then you can click OK. You can save the work (File >Save). You can create the CD (please read manual!!) 6) now you can duplicate / mass duplicate the CD Now we have these 10 (or 100 or 1000000) users that do receive the CD. How to calculate their passwords? a) open CDFrontEnd, open the document/hypertext, use the Hypetext >Password menu. b) besides the "custom password for each user" there are boxes where you can type the user name and email. For each user, type his/her name and email. You can see the personal user password on the top left of the password dialog, besides the "author password" (="password seed") Is it possible to calculate multiple passwords in one single way, or automatically? Yes, with the Mass button, or by calling CDFrontEnd command line.

And what about if I don't know the users and I want to pre-calculate some passwords?
