How do I place my ebook created in EBW on a web site using 1Site?  With each page as a separate web site page?  I have both programs.

In other words you want to publish the ebook as website (or website section) so the visitors would be able to read it for free.

Just open the ebook file (AEH file) with 1SITE.

Then configure the FTP parameters (you should do this once; hit F1, then Tutorials, then Internet FTP publishing for more information) and publish.

The tutorial cares also about publishing. If you are adding the ebook to an existing web site, a wise choice would be to publish the ebook into a separate folder, e.g.

http://www.yoursite.com/theebook1/

(so you may publish another ebook into another folder).

Within the Internet FTP publishing dialog you find a button for creating folders (similar to the MSWindows File Explorer one). Just create the folder then enter it (double click) before publishing.

I bought hyper publish and ebookwriter.
How do I publish my ebook to a web site that can be accessed by a first web page explaining the ebook and also where the reader can pay  through pay pal and and be given a link to my ebook? Your manual doesn't explain how to do this.

I try to reply step by step so this may be useful for other users.

First of all, to publish the web site you need to buy a web space and a domain (you can do this at www.visionhost.info or from any other host; for amateurish things Geocities may fit).

Then you create the website / web pages with HP (or maybe 1Site; some customers bought 1Site).

The simplest thing is to start with one single page where you explain about your ebook (some text, some images, some marketing blurb), and at the end of the page, you place a PayPal buy button.

This is quite easy. See PayPal on how to obtain the "code" for a buy button. They continuously change their menus, so I am not going to write here the precise menu. You login, then usually under the Seller tools section there is a tab where you can create a PayPal buy button. There is a wizard where you enter the name for the item (e.g. The 1968 Football League Ebook), the price, and so on; then you go on and PayPal shows a page where there is the so called "code" for the button.

That code will be a chunk of strange text, something like
<a hef="xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx">HHHHHYYYYY<etc>

just a bit longer and complicated.

To place this text, first thing you select it then you click the right mouse button and from the menu you select "Copy" (the page may show a copy to clipboard link that will do the same thing).

Then you move to HyperPublish that you left opened into the background, you place the cursor within the HP page at the place where you want the button to be shown (usually at the end of the page, as the visitor must read your text, be convinced to buy, and then he finds the buy button and clicks it; also multiple locations are fine, you just repeat), then use the menu Insert >HTML >Within text, then you paste the chunk of strange text provided by PayPal (right click, "Paste"), then you press Ok.

Now, in place of the button, HP will show a small icon (not the actual paypal button). Now you are ok: the only thing left to do is to publish the website. If it is not the first time you publish, you just click the publish icon on the toolbar (the World), then "Publish", if the first time maybe you should read the internet publishing tutorial
http://www.catalog-software.net/catalog_builder_software/product_catalog _software_00000f.htm

When a user purchases, PayPal sends you an email. Then you can send the ebook to the customer by email (you should be able to do this with your normal email program, Thunderbird, Outlook or so); or you can send to the customer an email with a download link for the ebook (will explain this later in a separate reply); PayPal has also an option where PayPal can show a specific page of your web site after the end user purchase (see PayPal website and documentation).

download link for the ebook, make it downloadable

Download link for the ebook: I mean something like
http://www.paperinik.com/oz/oz.exe

where the ebook file is oz.exe (the link is real, there is a very simple ebook about The Wizard of Oz - yes the famous one).

As you see, we placed the exe ebook file into a folder called oz, on the paperinik.com website. Your question could be: how can I do this for my website?

For this, you can use the "Generic FTP" feature. The Generic FTP must be *configured* just like the Internet Publishing (with the parameters supplied by the hosting service - us or whatever -  please see the Internet Publishing tutorial for this). Then with the Generic FTP you enter your website server and you are able to move around. Usually the server contains a special directory called "www" or "public_html" that contains all web files and all web folders: such as "oz". You enter the "www" directory (or whatever it is called; it may be the root directory on some servers; there is not a standard, each server do what they want) then with the "create new folders" button (a bright folder on the top right) you can create a new folder. Say you create a folder "oz".
Double click oz to enter the folder.

Then, on the left side of the "Generic FTP" dialog there is your hard disk (you can browse it in order to search your ebook exe file, e.g. football1968.exe or, in our example oz.exe) on the right side there is the content of the "oz" folder (you just created it, it will be empty). You select the oz.exe file on the left (or whatever), you press the -> button, the program will transfer the file.

When the transfer will be done, you will be able to test the download with
www.yourgreatandnicewebsite.com/oz/oz.exe

If it works, you did your job. You can supply this link to your paid customers.

Some ecommerce services (not PayPal as far as I know) permits you to store the downloadable file on the ecommerce (not on your website, I mean on their server). When a user pays for the ebook, they automatically deliver the file.

How do I place ebook on web site AS EXE FILE?

>>

There are 2 possible ways to put the ebook on the web
1) (simple but sometimes slow) within a 1site page highlight a text block; use Insert >Link then the 4th tab, select the exe file from the hard disk

2) (faster updates)
a) use the Generic FTP feature under the Publish menu in order to transfer the .exe file to the web. Make sure you put the file into the public_html folder of the server. Or, better, within the folder public_html, create a subfolder called "books"
b) within a 1site page highlight a text block; use Insert >Link then the 3th tab, press the Add+ button; type the web URL such as
http://www.yoursite.com/yourniceebook.exe
or (if you created the folder books and did put the ebook within it)
http://www.yoursite.com/books/yourniceebook.exe

I have 1site and EbooksWriter as the first guy.

I want to put one of my ebooks on the web site not as downloadable .exe (I already managed to do this - thank you) but I want the visitors to be able to read it on the web, online, without a download - this is a free ebook.

Can you explain me what to do step by step?

Ok.
Let's try step by step.

We suppose you have
- one website file, nicesite.aeh
- one ebook file mickeyebook.aeh
- 1site is already configured in order to publish to your web site space (if not, please see the 1site user's forum www.1site.info/forum/ and www.1site.info/web_publishing_software/create_web_site_00000f.htm and  www.1site.info/ftp/ )

Now:
1) open 1site

2) with File >Open, open the ebook file (mickeyebook.aeh or whatever)

3) use the usual Publish >Internet FTP >Publish on the Internet

4) now, if correctly configured, the publishing dialog opens and it is ready to publish the file into your main web site space (usually this is the www folder, called www, or public_hmtl, or with other names; it may also be the root folder and may have no name - usually this is configured as initial remote directory, see www.1site.info/ftp/ for details)

5) now you must NOT publish the ebook into your main web site space (or it will overwrite your web site). You should create a subfolder. There is a button to create folders on the top right of the publishing dialog; it's a folder with a bright spot. The new folder will be named by default "New folder"- now we suppose you will rename it mebook (if you use another name, note it, as this will be of use later)

6) at this point, the folder mebook must be created and must show on the right side of the dialog (please notice that the folder mebook MUST be created internally to the folder that hosts your main web site - or all this stuff will not work)

7) double click on mebook to enter the folder

8) press the big Publish button

9) wait for the publishing to proceed.

10) now, if everything was correct, you can type on Firfefox or Internet explorer www.yoursitename.com/mebook/ and you will see the ebook.
If, instead of mebook, you choose another name for the folder, then use
www.yoursitename.com/thenameyouused/

If now you see an error, this means that you created mebook NOT in the web folder. To fix, you must create this mebook folder within the web folder, as said. Please better care to do this: go to step (3) and repeat.

If
www.yoursitename.com/mebook/
shows your ebook in the web, now there is only one further step. How to place a link to the ebook within your web site.

a) open 1site (if not already opened)

b) with File >Open, open the site file (nicesite.aeh or whatever)

c) go to the page where you want to place the link and

d) highlight a text block and use Insert >Link; or right click on a image then use Define link

e) within the link dialog, choose the 3rd tab, then press the Add+ button

f) in the edit box, bottom left, type the full path for the ebook, i.e.
http://www.yoursitename.com/mebook/

then OK.

(P.S.: while you are here, remember that you can post a short message about your ebook at http://www.ebookswriter.com/forum/ebooks/ so other people will see your ebook/s )
