How do you go about adding a counter to a Web page designed with Easy Web?[   Also, I'm still having problems creating tables with image backgrounds.  What's the step by stpe procedure for that?

Search on the Web a site that offers a free counter. They will give you an HTML code.
Use "Insert >HTML >Within text" and copy that code into the dialog.
EWE will then show a little icon in the text. When you will publish to the Internet, this icon will become the counter.
BTW this is a Frequent Question, see

Put the mouse on a table cell and use the right button, "Properties". In the first tab, you can select a background (color or image) for all the table. In the second tab, you can choose color/image for the current cell / row / column.
Yes, it's that simple
