Search engine issues

I am thinking about buying EWE so any comments would be welcome.  I sent an e-mail asking how these issues affect EWE web pages.   The very prompt response follows.  Useful info.

>S>>
1. Search engines may have difficulty moving around in a framed site and may fail to add all of your pages to their listings. And pages that are missed will never show up in the search engine results when people search for your keywords.
>>>

With EasyWebEditor you can use or not use frames. Your choice.

>S>>
A more important problem occurs when the content pages do show up in the search engine results' pages. That's because when a searcher clicks on the link in the search engine results, it brings them to the content part of the page. Just the content part, which doesn't include the outside frame where site identification appears and where the links are that visitors need to find your contact information or the page where they can place an order.
>>>

This can not happen with EasyWebEditor as it includes a special "reframer" script. In case a end user enters a frame, the user is automatically redirected to the parent frame-set.

Example, try to enter this frame: http://www.visualvision.com/professional_authoring_software-000023.htm
you will be automatically redirected to the parent page: http://www.visualvision.com/professional_authoring_software_000023.htm

2. Graphics that include text. Because different visitors to your site have different fonts installed on their computers, the only way to ensure that the text on your web pages looks exactly as you want it?the size, font, line breaks and so on?is to include it in a graphic. And often such text looks really great.
>>>

(a little thing related to this topic: there is a free plugin that can instantly transform a text to a graphic image with just one click, you find it at http://www.visualvision.com/plugin/ search for "Text to image plug-in" )

>S>>
Unfortunately, search engines can't tell if that graphic says "REALLY Cheap Widgets" or if it's a photo of your new puppy. Words in graphics are wasted on the search engines. In order to understand that your page is about "really cheap widgets," they need to find those words in plain text on your page.
>>>

This is true. With EasyWebEditor you may also assign to each graphic an "alternated" text, that is seen by the search engines. This may help in
such situations when you definitely need to use an image and not a text.

3. In a similar fashion, navigation buttons that include words also can't be read by search engines. So what should you do? Include keywords in the links to pages on your site. This will help the search engines understand that those pages are relevant to those words. So either replace your navigation buttons with plain text links to the pages on your site, or supplement them with a redundant set of plain text links somewhere else on your page.
?? How does EWE address this?
>>>

...this means that if you place (say) 4 buttons (images) with links to other pages (right click an image, "Define link"), it is better (maybe on the bottom of the page) to apply the same links to texts (you may do this with "Insert >Link")

>S>>
4. Dynamic content. Regrettably, dynamic pages are often ignored by search engines for a number of technical reasons. One way to fix this problem is to create topical pages that aren't dynamic. For example, you may sell many varieties of both tabletop widgets and portable widgets. By creating a static page (a "normal" web page that's not created by your database) for tabletop widgets and another for portable widgets, you can use your essential keywords on those pages and still link to your dynamic pages to display individual products. Your dynamic pages are unlikely to be seen by the search engines, but your static, topical pages describing your selection of tabletop and portable widgets should.
?? How does EWE address this?
>>>

Unless *you* are using a database and scripts in order to create dynamic content (I guess you are not doing this) you can disregard this point.
EasyWebEditor doesn't use a database unless you manually insert codes for doing so.

For the other users that are reading this topic maybe it is useful to add the first part of the Susie's question that was:

>S>>
I'm thinking about using your product but I have several issues that I need to find out about before I buy.  [...] I felt that including the relevant parts from an article I read would be the easiest way to get the questions asked.  [...] I'm concerned that [my sites are] not the best for search engine listings for the reasons stated...
>>>>

I am happy Susie posted Q & A here as the issues listed above are the more common concerns about Search Engines.

As you can see EasyWebEditor is not just "easy to use" but also automatically cares about several search engines optimizations.

There is another thing to add: in case you use frames, EasyWebEditor also automatically manages a "NOFRAME" section. What does this means? It is likely that searching with Google or so you found a summary like this "your browser does not support frames" - really bad.

EasyWebEditor avoids this as when you use frames it automatically creates a page for "browsers that do not support frames" and of course for search engines.

This page is copied from the "master" frame. For more information about the "master" frame please see the "Frames" chapter of the PDF manual....... or this post will become toooooo long!
