Title: Spell check english français italiano deutsch espa
Post by Support Staff on Jan 24th, 2003, 10:15am
NOTICE: new versions manage the spell check in a different way, please see the end of this topic.
The old soup at the start is kept for old users and historical reasons.

As you may know, some installations of Office 2000/XP don't support sharing the spell-check function with other applications. This sharing is used by our products and enables users to keep a single "custom dictionary", retaining the same spell-check criteria for all (compatible) applications running on the PC.
A practical solution to get things working quickly was to install an old MSWord release (for example Word 7).
Another solution (for English MSWindows editions only) is to download this ZIP:
http://www.visualvision.com/download/SpellFix.zip
First close all programs, then extract the .dll .dic and .lex files to the directory shown in the ZIP archive. Then double-click the SpellFix.reg file, this will update the MSWindows registry and
you're done.

Hello,

I tried to do this and it installed fine. But when I tried to use the spell check I got this error message:

Access violation at address 00000000. Read of address 00000000.

Why did this happen?

Any help would make me very happy.  :)

Are you sure you unzipped by selecting "keep folder names"?

It looks like somehting isnt found by the program.

If you open the Registry (c:\windows\registry.exe) and you search for the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Proofing Tools\Spelling

you should see a subkey called 1033.
Inside it, a key called "nomal", and two strings, such as:
DICTIONARY
C:\Programs\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof\MSSP2_EN.LEX
ENGINE
C:\Programs\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof\MSSP232.DLL

(the path/folders you have might be different).
Please check that these files do exist.

Other problems might be caused by other subkeys such as 1036. A solution is to try to temporarily delete them.

Please email support@visualvision.com so we might help you with some screen shot.

For the new version the use of the spell check is more simple.

You still need to unzip the spell check file that is above; now preferably you should unzip the files within the program folder, that in the default install is c:\vv\CDROMs\IPER3PRO\Eng\CLIENT\F
(to find this folder you should use the MS Windows File Explorer). This is because certain security options of XP / Vista / 7 may forbid the program to run the spell check if it is placed elsewhere in the computer.

Then you go to Tools >Program Options, then the Spell tab, and you click as in the image below:
http://www.visualvision.com/download/spelldialog.gif

the program will show a path selection dialog that will permit you to browse the hard disk, you must browse to the folder where you placed the files extracted from the ZIP (so to c:\vv\CDROMs\IPER3PRO\Eng\CLIENT\F if you proceeded like in our example).

When you do this the program finds the dictionary and it activates it. In the zip you find the english but the program is able to use also the italian, french, german, spanish, etc.

If you select the right path, the program finds the files, and the language is added besides (where now is the white drop down, it will list "English" or any other language). If you by mistake don't select the right path, the program will tell you and you can retry.
