Title: expiration date, days
Post by librum on Dec 10th, 2012, 8:35pm
I sent a message to support, but have not received a reply.  I did read the pdf manual, but found no answer.

And it is such an obvious feature, I have trouble believing it is not in the package.

Is there a way to have an ebook expire on either 1) number of days since first open, or 2) number of openings.  In other words, a 'trial period', but not based on a rigid date.

The reason is simple, we have a lot of ebooks.  Having only a rigid date would force us to constantly have to update the ebooks.  That would be an exercise in futility.

Update.

Yes I sent a similar question in 2008.  But the question has changed.  Before we wanted a password to 'unlock'.  Now we only need to 'expire'.

Our present software is not longer supported, which is why we are searching again.

Hi! Please check your spam filters, we did reply.
This feature is not available at present, but we are working on it.

Of course you can apply one or more passwords.

this is just to add that in the GOLD version you can customize the message shown to the end user when (and if) the ebook expires.

after the message, the ebook can show a given URL in the browser.

this is available in Hypertext >Current hypertext options, the "Reader Show Options" tab, "Custom expiry message" box.

the action performed by the ebook depends on how you fill the box:

example1:

Your ebook is expired, please contact us.

example2:

We are happy to announce that within the new version available from today you can set up the ebook to expire after N days (e.g. 15 days, 30 days, 60 days, etc.)

This setting is available in the menu:
Hypertext
Current hypertext properties

You can also enable both days and date, e.g. after 15 days and after 31 december 2040.
