I am a new user and I want to use tables. The default table shows with a dotted border that is hard for me to look at. How do I change the borders

The tables in edit mode do show a dotted border. No way to change it.
 
You can use the Table menu (properties) or right click in order to change the border at runtime (or in preview mode).
