Hello I am writing from India. I am a softskills trainer, considering writing e books on my subjects and then selling them online. My requirements are as follows – Create an e book containing all of following – text, pictures, hyperlinks, sound and PPT slides Purchaser should be able to buy from web after paying through credit card etc. Once the payment is cleared, the purchaser should automatically get enabled to downloaded on his/her machine without I coming into picture at all. The agency accepting the payment should deduct their commission and remit my share to my bank account in India in Indian currency. The purchaser should not be able to print it, copy it or transfer it some other reader in any way. It should be a one person, lifetime use book. This is important. I am thinking of going in for the STD ( STANDARD ) version. For all the above, please let me know following – Can it be done – partially, or all of it. To do this, what technical knowledge will I need. What all agencies will be involved i.e. e commerce site etc ( I have my own site too ) What will be the cost for all above facilities for Sending me the CD in India. And, sending the CD to my address in the USA. Can the standard version be later upgraded to, say, Gold/PRO? Thanks. Best Alok Asthana

>> The purchaser should not be able to print it, copy it or transfer it some other reader in any way. >> for password protection you need the PRO or the GOLD. You can of course upgrade from any version to any version at a discounted price. >> buy from web after paying through credit card etc. remit my share to my bank account >> there are several services about this. We sell only the software that you use to write, edit, enrich (with images, video, etc), pack, protect the ebook. If you need to create a web site you need hosting www.visionhost.info and a web editor www.1site.info (1site can be purchased as a bundle with EBooksWriter). There are also other interesting topics about how to place your ebook on your web site at http://www.paperinik.com/cgi-bin/eng/YaBB.pl?board=EBW;action=display;nu m=1088948072 http://www.paperinik.com/cgi-bin/eng/YaBB.pl?board=EBW;action=display;nu m=1031669408 For the rest, the ecommerce part, you find on the web hundreds of ecommerce providers. Some of them can also deliver the ebook file automatically to the purchaser. Take a look at http://www.paperinik.com/cgi-bin/eng/YaBB.pl?board=EBW;action=display;nu m=1059171883 and please post questions about ecommerce (if any) to this topic only. An important task is also marketing / selling the ebook / suggesting your ebook to various sites, see for example: http://www.paperinik.com/cgi-bin/eng/YaBB.pl?board=EBW;action=display;nu m=1096839021

I am evaluating different ebook software products for faculty use at our university. Our faculty would like to publish ebook (either manuscript in PDF or text format) and make it available to other instructors and students for a fee to be paid by credit card or Paypal. One of the requirements is for a faculty to be able to collect some statistics on the buyers-students who use ebook service. 1. We would like instructors to be able to view the complete manuscript on the website for a few hours, 2-3 hrs, but not be able to download it or print it. Instructors have to enter their name, school, class they are or will be teaching, and email address. They should be able to do it only once, the control being their email address. They can of course buy it like everyone else. 2. We would like to offer a free access to the manuscript for instructors if 10 or more students from their class purchase an ebook. When the number of buyers (students from one class) reaches 10, an email will be sent to the instructor informing her/him that a free pdf file/manuscript is available. 3. We would like to offer a buyer an unlimited access to view the entire book either online or on a website for 9 months. A buyer will also have the option of printing it. A buyer should also have an email address as a password to the website once he/she paid for it. When a student buyer purchases an ebook, he/she needs to identify his/her class (instructor name). 4. To be able to summarize certain data, like the school name, number of students in a class that purchased an ebook. 5. We would like to provide a contact to faculty's website if a buyer has any comments/questions. However, this contact should not be done using the faculty's email. 6. To be able to pay for an ebook using a credit card or paypal. 7. We would like to have a webpage that explains all of the above; a place for instructors to view an ebook, a place for students to freely view the table of contents and list of figures, links to faculty other books, maybe as they show it on Amazon .com. Other questions: (a) Is it required for a student/buyer to be connected to the Internet when reading an ebook or can reading be done by downloading ebook to a local desktop? (b) What software is required on a desktop to read an ebook? And Mac?

Hi! I believe you need something custom to fit these precise needs. Also it is quite hard to protect something that should be fruited through a web site, so you may find more easy to change your requirements. The ebooks created with our software are designed for offline reading, and as the browser software is custom, the ebook can be securely encrypted with 128 bit cryptography; to achieve this goal (strong protection) the ebook has nothing to do with PDF (that can be easily unprotected due to some tech constraints); EBooksWriter features an internal feature-rich editor, where you can type stuff (or maybe copy and paste from a PDF! ), add images, audio, video, hot spots, links etc. You can forbid printing and clipboard copy, and you can assign custom passwords for each user (password can be locked to name + email). Part of the ebook can be left unprotected, and you can apply different passwords to different sections. The ebook can have an expiry date. With EBooksWriter GOLD your ebook can contain a contact form (the form may call a script on your web server the standard CGI way - your web guru will be able to get the data and process them - email, fax or whatever). The ebook is an exe file (that does not require readers - everything is self-contained) that you can sell how you like: we do not lock you to any ecommerce or website, we sell software, not ecommerce. Typically you show the product through your website (or elsewhere) and get the payment through PayPal (or other services), then you deliver the exe file after they payment (by email or with a download link), along with the password(s). There are several topics on this forum about this, search for m arketing or e-c ommerce (use the search dialog on top and enter these words; one is http://www.paperinik.com/cgi-bin/eng/YaBB.pl?board=EBW;action=display;nu m=1059171883 ). A custom script on your server may count things such as 10 students or so (you won't find anything commercial /already made that can do this: you need a web scripts guru for this). The software is for PC (or for Mac running any common PC emulator software, as it is very fast, really more fast than normal PC software, as it has been designed to run also on old PCs - all last Macs can and emulator software is getting cheap).

Thank you for your detailed response. Please reply to the following questions: Q1: Does EBooksWriter create the ebook EXE program you described below? Q2: What is your licensing policy for using EBooksWriter program and does this license tie to a specific desktop? Q3: After our customers execute the ebook EXE program, do they need Acrobat Reader to view the ebook content and what versions of Acrobat Reader are supported? If you are not using PDF format for the ebook, please describe what other format is being used? Do you have an option to select a different format? Q4: What are differences between EbooksWriter and EbooksWriter GOLD (features and pricing)? Q5: Whatare disk space requirements for installing EBooksWriter and approximately how much space an ebook EXE program requires (disk space per number of pages)? Q6: Do you know of any clients/websites that sell ebooks using your software?

> Q1: Does EBooksWriter create the ebook EXE program you described below? Hi! Yes > Q2: What is your licensing policy for using EBooksWriter program and > does this license tie to a specific desktop? When you purchase 1 license, 1 people can use the EbooksWriter. The product is not locked to your PC. > Q3: After our customers execute the ebook EXE program, do they need > Acrobat Reader to view the ebook content No > and what versions of Acrobat Reader are supported? If you are not > using PDF format for the ebook, please describe what other format is > being used? Do you have an option to select a different format? EBooksWriter uses a private encrypted format, with 128 bit security. PDF is not secure and it is easy to unprotect (see another topic: http://www.paperinik.com/cgi-bin/eng/YaBB.pl?board=EBW;action=display;nu m=1150814233 ) > Q4: What are differences between EbooksWriter and EbooksWriter GOLD > (features and pricing)? www.ebookswriter.com/checklist/ www.ebookswriter.com/buy/ > Q5: Whatare disk space requirements for installing EBooksWriter and > approximately how much space an ebook EXE program requires (disk space > per number of pages)? if your computer can run your version of MSWindows, then it can run EBooksWriter. EBooksWriter requires low disk space (less than 10MB), and its documents are stored very efficiently. Usually if you save a (say) 100KB document with MSWord, then EBooksWriter requires 50KB or even less for the same document. > Q6: Do you know of any clients/websites that sell ebooks using your > software? Our clients are welcome to post at www.ebookswriter.com/forum/ (this forum: there is a topic "examples of ebooks created with EbooksWriter or so"; you may take a look http://www.paperinik.com/cgi-bin/eng/YaBB.pl?board=EBW;action=display;nu m=1021548372 ) but they are not forced to, and we respect their privacy.

Q1: There is one more question I have concerning your product. I understand that your product has its own editor/viewer for viewing the ebook content. What features your editor/viewer provides as compared to Acrobat Reader? For example, can you search for keywords, navigate quickly to a specific page or section of the book by following links and etc.? Q2: Do you provide a demo of your editor/viewer on your web site so that I can test it? Q3: What is the final outcome/output of converting a book in PDF format to your proprietary format? Do you preserve the same fonts, layout, figures and so on?

Q1: the navigation features for an ebook created with EbooksWriter are more powerful than for a PDF. You can define not only basic links from a page to another page, but you can also add popups, frames, and other nice things. There is a built-in full text search feature; and there is a keyword search feature (you decide the keywords; a global keyword list and page keywords) Q2: basically all your questions already have a reply on our website www.ebookswriter.com This website also allow you to download a LITE edition, this from the home page!! You are welcome to read at least the home page!! Q3: EBooksWriter is a full all-in-one tool. Frankly you should forget the PDF: the better way to work is to create your ebook in EBooksWriter. EBooksWriter of course would be able to reuse your text and images, in case you already prepared something for the PDF. But between EBooksWriter and the PDF there is the same difference that intercours between a web page and a PDF page. PDF is the sad attempt to insert a paper sheet on the video (ok, it is *very* handy for things you have to print, it is not handy at all for video). EbooksWriter is for really taking advantage of the video... it is designed to show information on screen, with all the added things the screen permits (popup windows, frames, video, audio, hot spots), and with the auto-adjustment to the screen width (no boring zoom no boring pan)... it's another world!!!

I am trying to find out the pricing for ebooks writer and 1site bundle (ebook software combined with website builder/hosting). Also, does 1site include search engine submission (to Google or yahoo)? Do you offer ecommerce tools as well? Thank you.
